Spicy stir fry squid is my favorite Seafood stir fry dish. Being Taiwanese, I love seafood and I love everything stir-fried. Stir fry dishes are common in Taiwan, you can find restaurants specifically making stir fry dishes on big woks. We called these restaurants 快炒店 which literally translated to Fast stir fry store. People like to drink and eat hot and delicious dishes with friends at the end of the day. Here is a simple recipe to make Spicy Stir Fry Squid in 5 minutes
My mom likes to add some celery for the texture for the spicy stir fry squid. In this way, you are able to enjoy tenderness from the squid and the crunchiness from the celery. All the natural herbs will provide great flavor for this dish.
The key points
- Poach the squid before stir fry the squid
Use the knife to slice some texture on the squid surface, and Poach the squid before stir frying are the most important thing for this dish. By cutting the texture on the squid will allow flavor soaking into the squid faster, and cooked easily. On the other hand, poach the squid in boiling lightly salted water will get rid of the sliminess of squid and cook the squid half way which can avoid overcooking the squid during the hot stir fry process. - Add some vegetables, like celery or cabbage.
The texture of cooked squid is tender but chewy. By adding some vegetables, like celery or cabbage can make this dish contain the crunchiness. I think crunchy celery and tender squid are perfect pair. - Natural herbs and spices
I like to use natural herbs and spices in the original form instead of pre-grinded powder. This dish will be fresh, savory, tasty with fresh ginger, garlic, green onions. - This dish will turn slightly brown almost burn because of the brown sugar and garlic being cooked at the earlier stage. Don’t worry!! The magical burn taste from stir fry will make this dish taste better

Spicy Stir Fry Squid
A quick and easy stir fry squid dish with great spicy savory flavor
Servings 2 People
Equipment
- Medium size fry pan or a wok
- small soup pot
Ingredients
- 1 Squid
- 2 Stalks Celery Cut in bite sizes
- 2 Bunches Green onion or leek (about 1/2 cup) chop in small pieces, save some for garnish at the end
- 2 Slices Ginger Julienned
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic (about 4 cloves)
- 1 Tbsp Sake or cooking wine
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
Dry seasoning mix
- 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 1 Tsp White Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Chili Powder
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper
- 1/2 Tsp White Pepper
Instructions
Prepare the squid
- Slice texture on cleaned squid and cut in bite size
- Poach the squid in boiling water for about 30 seconds
- Strain the squid and set a side
Start cooking in a medium frying pan
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil in the pan under medium heat
- Add green onions, ginger, minced garlic cook until aroma comes out
- Add the poached squid
- Add sake, soy sauce and stir everything evenly
- Add the dry seasoning mix in the pan, mix well
- Stir everything until turning brown, then it's done!!
